CHFP Prerequisites

Hello,

I recently joined the organization as a student member. I have started the CSMC certification without any complications. However, I read in one of the discussion threads that it is best to get the CHFP first and then specialize. Upon trying to get started with that one instead, I noticed that it says that I do not have the required prerequisites. What are they or is it because I am listed as a student? I'd love any tips or advice. I'm very excited about all that this organization has to offer.

  • Hi TaMarr,

Welcome to HFMA! One of the HFMA staff members may chime in with more information, but in the meantime the below information from this CHFP page may be helpful: https://www.hfma.org/education-and-events/certifications/certified-healthcare-financial-professional.html

"Please note HFMA professional or business partner all-access membership is a required aspect to hold and maintain the CHFP credential.

Paid student members are eligible to register for and to take both modules of the CHFP certification program (included with membership). Student members who successfully complete the CHFP requirements (two modules) will earn their designation upon assuming Professional or Business Partner level member status. Students can upgrade their membership by using a promo code at check out for a discount on annual dues. For one year of membership, use code GRADMEM1 to reduce dues to $210; for two years of membership, use code GRADMEM2 and pay only $420."

I started with the CHFP and then went onto other certifications, but I don't think you can go wrong with any of them if they especially interest you! It's a great way to stand out and develop professionally.

  • Melinda, thank you for sharing the certification information with TaMarr - you phrased it perfectly!
