CRCR test

Hello,

I just took the CRCR test and failed. First and foremost, I am not a test taker, I completely freeze up when taking a test. I took notes during the study time, and they didn't help me during the test. I have got to pass this test. Would anyone have any advice to offer me. I would so greatly appreciate it.

  • Hi Angela,

I took the test last week and failed tooBlush. Same had notes and I’ve been in the Healthcare arena for over 30 years, a lot on the study I was very acquainted with. However, I failed!.  I am trying to review the resources tab and see if I get more leverage from there…Don’t be discourage, we got to keep trying, we eventually pass!

  • Hello Maria,

It is a bit discouraging cause I too have been here close to 30 years, I know billing. I just don't know what to study and the way the questions are worded, it just confuses me. I sure hope I pass, I have to. Thank you for responding to me and for the pep talk Slight smile

  • Do not be discouraged.  For many the anxiety of test taking is worse than seeing the dentist.   I would suggest that you think about joining a CRCR study group.  The Texas chapters just recently offered an online class which met 1 night a month over a four-month period.  They had over 400 in attendance.   I have heard many people have passed.   They are preparing to offer the class again, in April.  I do not believe it is officially scheduled yet, but it is coming.

  • Thank you for that information. I wish I would have known about that before. It is my understanding that I have to take it again in 30 days, which I hope I pass then, but you only have so many chances to take it, because we have a time line that it has to be passed by.... at least that is what I have been told.

Agree Angela, the question was of topic but not exactly as the lessen taught, so a bit confusing especially when you are ton the clock... we' will keep trying, good luck!

  • Angelia, I am sorry to hear that you were unsuccessful in your attempt. I know how frustrating this can be when you are prepared to take an exam. You will be eligible to retake the assessment in 30-days from your attempt. As Chris mentions, for additional study assistance, you could check if your local chapter/region is offering any in-person study sessions or boot camps. This is a helpful resource to aid your studies.

General CRCR Certification exam study tips.

    • Take the pre-tests at the beginning of each of the 4 sections; this will also help determine what areas to further focus your studies.
    • Capture your notes for areas you need to focus more on. You can do this within the course under the “Notes” section or in the Key Concepts Guide.
      • You can print out the Key Concepts Guide from the course. This guide is intended for those who wish to make focused notes and capture important concepts while working with the online study materials. Taking the time to use and/or customize the guide can help you to develop a handy review tool.
      • The concept guide identifies important ideas and is a supplement to the online study program. It is not a replacement for the online materials and not a complete summary of the online course. It is intended to help you summarize your personal learning.
    • There are checkpoints along the way (knowledge check or quiz) to check your understanding in each section presented. Be sure to answer those and if you get one wrong, understand why it was wrong.
    • There is a “QUIZ BUILDER” option that allows you to practice topics within a course by building your own quiz using questions from any knowledge check or quiz in the course (the same quiz is repeated with each attempt) that you attempted.
      • The quiz can be used as an additional study aid and is not a representation of the final course assessment.
      • Any custom quizzes taken in the Quiz Builder are used for practice purposes only.
    • Make sure you understand the learning objectives that are presented at the start of each course.
      • The learning objectives of the eLearning course can be an excellent road map during online learning.
      • At the end of your review look at those objectives again and make sure you can achieve them (Recognize, Identify, etc.).
    • Review and Revise
      • Ensure you thoroughly read the material as the exam questions do tie back to the content you’ve learned.
      • Regular revisions of the things you have already studied will not only improve your memory, but they will also help you better understand what you are learning.
      • Set aside time to study and review – uninterrupted, without distraction. If you’re multitasking while reviewing the course, you won’t retain the information.
    • Also in the concept guide are Test Taking Strategies – the last section in all certification study guides.
    • Exam attempt summary: If previously unsuccessful, we recommend taking the time until your next attempt to review your most recent exam summary results to see what units of the program you need more focus on. This summary may be accessed in the exam section.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have questions. Good luck!

  • Good luck to you too.

  • How do get to the CRCR study materials

  • Hello, once enrolled you access the CRCR materials via your HFMA eLearning dashboard. You may use this link to enroll as needed:Get a Revenue Cycle Certification | HFMA. If you need further assistance, please let me know.

  • Shirley provided very insightful and practical advice for acing your CRCR test. I have taught many CRCR coaching sessions and bootcamps nationally for chapters and regions (typically 6 hours to one day). It’s intended to help attendees hone in their test-taking strategy by practicing and discovering a practical approach to achieve the minimal passing score of 70%.

During the test, take your time and think through the time management. Typically, you take an average of a little over one minute per question, which keeps a good pace and performance.

If you spend over 2 minutes on a question and are still unsure, move on. You can lose some battles but still win the war (get yourself certified). Grab a cup of coffee, tea, and an energy bar by your desk before you start the test. Best luck, and feel free to contact me if I can be of assistance to get you certified.
