CRCR exam and coding

hi all

I'm newish to the field and trying to make the switch from credentialing to revenue cycle. I'm studying for the CRCR certification. In looking at job openings, I see many that ask for coding experience/certification. Should I also get coding certification?

  • Having the coding certification along with your CRCR will only broaden the opportunities available to you.  In the revenue cycle, the dependence upon coding skills for CDM, edits, CARC/RARC codes and appeals, not to mention just coding for claims submission, are integral skills.  Go for it!

  • Great! Thanks for that input. I'm working on it. I actually discovered I can do a medical coding intensive course, including taking one of the credentialing exams (I'm leaning towards AHIMA's certified coding associate exam) at my local community college.
