Looking for some career advice from the HFMA community!

Hello my name is Keyonda I recently earned both my HFMA CHFP and CSBI certifications, and I'm curious to hear from those of you working in healthcare finance : Do you feel these certifications would be a strong addition to my career as i transition from the clinical side into healthcare finance?

I'm currently a specialty Medical Assistant in a Kidney/Pancreas Transplant Center and I'm looking to transfer internally into a Transplant Financial Coordinator role. I don't have direct healthcare finance experience yet, but i do have 8+ years of healthcare experience , a strong understanding of insurance and patient Financial processes, and extensive knowledge of the transplant clinic, workflows, and patient population. I also have experience with medication prior authorizations, although i have not performed radiology/testing authorizations( MRI, CT, ultrasound) etc. one of the things i believe may be an advantage is that i already understand the clinical side of transplant and the day to day operations of the clinic. I'm hoping to combine that knowledge with the financial / business knowledge I've gained through CHFP and CSBI.

For those of you who work in healthcare finance, how would you view someone with my background making this type of transition?

HFMA Certifications Role in Career - Excelling in RCM

How much do HFMA certifications actually influence career growth in medical billing and revenue cycle management? I am especially interested in whether certifications such as CRCR or CHFP make a meaningful difference when moving into roles involving denial management, reimbursement analysis, or RCM leadership. For those working in specialty billing, does certification provide enough practical value on its own, or is hands-on experience more important? I would also like to know how professionals view specialized knowledge, such as Gastroenterology support, when evaluating an RCM candidate. Are there specific HFMA certifications that employers consistently value for these career paths?

Introduction & CHCRS Question

Hello everyone,

My name is Arianna, and I have worked in the Healthcare Revenue Cycle, particularly in Patient Access, for the better part of the last seven years. I truly enjoy the Revenue Cycle field and appreciate the impact that strong Patient Access processes have on both the patient experience and an organization's financial health.

One of my professional goals is to continually expand my knowledge and credentials to strengthen my career growth and make my professional portfolio more competitive. Through HFMA membership, I have been fortunate to earn several certifications, including:

CRCR
CSPR
CHFP
CSAPM
CSPPM
CSBI
CSAF

While I am proud of these accomplishments, my focus remains on obtaining the Certified Healthcare Revenue Specialist (CHCRS) designation and, ultimately, the Executive Healthcare Revenue Credential (EHRC).

I do have a question for those who have completed the CHCRS program or are familiar with its requirements. After completing the no-cost prerequisite courses associated with the CHCRS, how long do those completed prerequisites remain accessible? Do they remain available throughout the two-year certification cycle leading up to recertification, or is there a different access period?

I appreciate any guidance or insights from those who have gone through the process. I look forward to connecting with fellow HFMA members and learning from your experiences.

Missing Certification

Platform update- missing feature

I was to pick back up where I left off at before the platform update. I know bookmarks weren’t transferring over but I don’t see the section to add personal notes. Is this no longer available as well? While I do have the outline guide print out, there’s not always enough space for me to note what I deem important which made that Notes tab super useful .

CRCR Recertification

Hello!

I am currently CRCR certified and my certification will need renewing before May 27,2026 (it says extended to June 30, 2026), however I have not received anything

from HFMA about my recertification, nor do I see anything about recertification under my accounts. I reached out to someone last week and explained I have not seen

an email, nor have I been able to pull anything up. The representative told me I should have gotten an email with instructions in it 4-5 months prior to my certification expiring.

The only thing I can see is the whole course to retake with 70/75 questions to answer...I thought the recert was just a simple 50 question test, no need to redo the whole course?

Can someone please help me and let me know where I need to go or how do I find the CRCR recertification so I can get a start

on it?

Unable to Access CHFP Certificate PDF

Hello everyone,

I recently completed both the Business of Healthcare (BOH) and Operational Excellence (OE) modules and can now see that my CHFP certification has been awarded in my HFMA profile.

I’ve also received the digital badge via Credly. However, I’m unable to find any option within the HFMA portal to view or download the official CHFP certificate (PDF) for printing purposes.

I’ve checked:
- Certifications section
- Online Reporting Tool

…but there doesn’t seem to be a download option available.

Has anyone faced a similar issue? If so, could you please guide me on how to access the certificate or whether it needs to be requested separately from HFMA?

I am looking for guidance on the enrollment steps for the Certified Healthcare Finance Professional (CHFP) modules. I’ve explored the HFMA website, but I am currently unable to register for the coursework.

I am a finance professional with over six years of experience in accounting, internal controls, and multi-million-dollar budget management (including roles at Twentieth Century Fox and The Walt Disney Company). I am currently completing the Certified Specialist Accounting & Finance (CSAF) certification as part of my transition into Healthcare Financial Management.

I would appreciate any information.

2026 Recertification Extension Reminder:

We want to inform you of an important update regarding the 2026 recertification process for HFMA learners whose certifications were originally set to expire on May 31, 2026. To better support access and planning, the recertification due date was extended from May 31, 2026, to June 30, 2026. Why the Extension? Our new Learning Management System (LMS) is scheduled to launch in Spring 2026 and during the transition, there may be 2 weeks of limited LMS access.

Who This Applies To: Individuals holding any of the following HFMA certifications, which require renewal every two years:

CRCR
CSAF
CSBI
CSPR
CSPPM

2026 Recertification Access Details

Access Period: December 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026
Enrollment: Automatic — No action is required for members. Non-members are charged a $100 fee.

Learner notifications: All learners have already received this information and will continue to be reminded in monthly reminder messages.

CRCR no experience

I recently received my CHAA last year. I am a risk analyst and have worked for very large fintec, and payment processing companies. I dont have any experience in healthcare, but I am wanting to transition into healthcare. Would the CRCR benefit me ? I am also currently in training to become a CPC.

CHFP Certification Questions

Hello Everyone!

I'm new here, apologies if this question has been asked/answered before! I have three certifications that I aim to study for, one of them being the CHFP designation as my most important one.

When I attempt to select this course to begin, it says "to access this course, please complete required prerequisites. Please refer to the catalog item "enrollment information" tab." May someone point me in the direction to the enrollment information for this certification? I am sure I'm overlooking it, any guidance would be appreciated!

CRCR Test Interruption

I was on the final question #75 out of 75 (1-74 answered) and I must have hit something on my keyboard to cause my window to close. When I returned to the test, it showed me locked out of my test and my results were not available. Can this test attempt be recovered and scored accordingly?
